Philanthrocapitalism For Solar Shuls

Solar-powered synagogues represent a powerful symbol for congregations and local communities, demonstrating how we can better care for the world around us.

In addition to the climate benefits that solar power provides, it also offers significant financial advantages by reducing energy costs, which are among the largest operational expenses for synagogues.

Given the numerous ongoing benefits of solar energy and the generous incentives that are in place, Solar Shul’s goal is to help synagogues transition to solar power quickly and to support many synagogues in making the shift to solar.

To achieve this at scale, we adopt a Philanthrocapitalist approach to funding solar projects. This capitalist method of philanthropy offers the greatest return for benefactors while providing ongoing cost savings for synagogues. We collaborate with benefactors to fund and own solar projects across synagogue campuses, selling the electricity back to the synagogues at discounted rates, for a set number of years, and then donating the solar system to shuls.

Light offers so much symbolism for Jews, and Solar (The sun's Energy) offers an impactful solution to help Synagogues, the Jewish pillars of our communities.
